What materials are used for tooth piling?
Dec 26, 2023
Tooth piling materials include metal, fiber, and porcelain, each with their own pros and cons.
Metal posts have high strength and can change the angle of the crown, but they need to be made outside the body, require relatively many visits, have poor aesthetics, and have a relatively high risk of tooth root fracture. The mechanical properties of fiber posts are similar to those of dental tissue, which can reduce the risk of tooth root fractures, reduce the number of medical visits, have good aesthetics, and will not affect MRI examinations. However, their strength is lower than that of metal posts, and they cannot change the direction and shape of the crown. It is pre-made and cannot adapt to special root canal shapes, etc. Porcelain posts are rarely used clinically.
Clinically, doctors will choose the appropriate material based on the remaining dental tissue of the affected tooth. If the tooth defect is very large, it is better to choose a metal post and core; if the tooth defect is relatively small, it is better to use a fiber post resin core.
